How did you become designer?

As a child, I loved expressing my thoughts and feelings through drawings. Could draw all day, listening to music, escaping to my world of imagination and creativity. At some point during those years, I realized that creating art was not really what I wanted to do. The idea that what you draw on paper can be functional and can become a product was fascinating to me. I started developing interest in different fields of design, my drawings slowly changed into sketches of fashion collections, interior plans, logos of imaginary brands, etc. Soon I no longer had to question who I wanted to become, the profession of designer seemed to be the best possible option for me.
Studying at National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia helped me develop both passion for my profession and skills. I’ve been very fortunate to work with teachers who inspired me to grow and guided me in the right direction.

How do you define your vision of design, your style?

To me the most important element in design is the concept (it doesn’t matter if it’s graphic, industrial or any other form of design). It’s very important to understand what you’re doing, what you’re doing it for and why you’re making those particular decisions during the designing process. Every competent design project is based on a strong concept.
In terms of style, I don’t have a specific style. I’m learning to trust my intuition more, make decisions based on inner voice, research and the experience I’ve gained over the years.

What do you like the most in your job?

I love coming up with ideas and concepts. I love that ‘aha’ moment when you know you have a solution to a problem. I also love collaborating, exchanging information and nonstop learning.
