Discover the interview of Kleanthis Loizou:
How did you become designer?
Since I was a child I remember being drawn to beautiful things. I loved well designed kids’ books and toys and I was always curious about objects that felt carefully made. I would spend hours drawing and trying to create my own versions. As a teenager I turned to art. It gave me a sense of freedom but it never felt quite right. When I joined art school everything became clearer. I realized I enjoyed creating things that people could use and connect with. That feeling of someone appreciating and interacting with my work pulled me closer to design. From there I began experimenting with websites and logos and spent entire days exploring new ideas. I studied web design and development but my curiosity led me to dive deeper into graphic design, typography and illustration. That curiosity is still with me today. I see my journey as a constant process of learning and creating.
How would you define your vision of design, your style?
I’d describe my vision of design as adaptable but always guided by a clear approach. For me, design is not just the final outcome, it’s also the story behind it and what it says to the viewer. I always ask myself what the design should make someone feel. The most powerful work is the kind that speaks directly to the viewer. My style is bright and expressive, with color and small details that invite people to look closer and spend time with it. There’s a rawness to it, a sense of honesty, often expressed through hand-drawn illustrations that feel spontaneous and full of energy.
For the future, what are your professional projects?
Well, I definitely want to invest more in myself, to keep learning and experimenting. What I always push myself to do is stay as diverse as possible, to step outside my comfort zone and explore new industries. In recent years I’ve been especially drawn to packaging design and the challenge of creating something unique for each product. Looking ahead, one of my biggest dreams is to open my own studio, a space where creatives and thinkers can come together to build ideas across all areas of design, not just graphic design. I want to innovate and help move Cyprus onto another level, where it can compete in design on a global scale. My vision is to stay free, to stay creative, to keep innovating, and to support others along the way.
What do you like the most in your job?
For me it’s simple, I love everything about my job. I know it might sound a little cheesy, but design is part of my everyday life. I notice it, I appreciate it, I live with it. You’ll always find me exploring new things online, reading articles, looking for inspiration. What I love the most is that people get to experience my work and connect with it. I love being able to support other creatives, and I love creating work that resonates with people. I enjoy the curiosity that drives me, the sense of competition, and the thrill that comes with every new creation.
