The name Sikaru, as well as its symbol on the label, are inspired by the name of the first chemically confirmed barley beer written in cuneiform writing by Sumerians. The oldest surviving recipe for brewing beer (dating back to around 1800 BC) is probably the hymn to Ninkasi. This hymn is a song of praise to the ancient Sumerian goddess of beer, by describing the steps involved in brewing it.
