Discover the interview of Stepan Azaryan from Backbone Branding in Yerevan, Armenia.
How did you become designer ?
As a kid I used to spend countless hours drawing toys and then building them from scratch with whatever materials I got my hands on. There is something that fascinated me about seeing the outcome of my imagination right in front of my eyes. I do believe that what draws your attention in your early years is what is going to carry on being your passion for the rest of your life. And this is what happened! Over the years, I continued practicing my drawing skills and ameliorating my illustrations and got into photography and visual art. Design
thinking came naturally to me. So to sum it up, entering this field was the obvious thing to do!
How would you define your vision of design, your style ?
My main focus when I am creating a design is for it to be functional and based on the essential needs of the brand. No extra elements that have no point other than being decorative enhancements. Every little detail is very much thought of and has to be there for a practical reason. So, I always opt for a minimal, modern design. When you observe Nature, it’s fascinating how every single detail is there for a reason and plays an indispensable function. Hence, most of my inspiration is drawn from Nature.
For the future, what are your professional projects
Our main focus is the food industry, it is always growing and developing and the competition in food packaging is so fierce, and we love it! It challenges us to surpass ourselves every time and continue advancing. I am working with my team on several new projects that are coming out very soon. Stay tuned!
What do you like the most in your job ?
Everything that I mentioned above! Our field is very challenging and continuously evolving. It is always fulfilling to be surrounded by creativity and to discover a new design or a new project that inspires you and pushes you to go further and think in new ways! Anything can happen, there are no boundaries and the possibilities are endless and that in itself is very exciting. So as a designer my everyday goal is to set my imagination free, get inspired by what is around me and hope to do better and better with very single project!
