Merril Cledera

Discover the interview of Merril Cledera in New York, USA.

How did you become designer ?

At an early age, I was already very creative and started to delve into visual arts, specifically painting. From then on, I started to meddle into the graphic world focusing on digital illustration and design. I studied Arts Management in Manila but I realized that I wanted to focus on media and design, so I took graduate studies in Media Studies in New York City. From then on, I became a graphic designer and an art director – jobs which I‘ve always wanted to do and which I enjoy doing everyday.

How would you define your vision of design, your style ?

Simple, minimal but vibrant and bold. My approach to design could be as simple as anything I see around my life or whatever comes along the way. And then I execute that approach to create a great design idea or product.

For the future, what are your professional projects

The professional projects that I have for now are multiple creations of brand identities for an artist in Barcelona, an Italian restaurant and a wine product.

What do you like the most in your job ?

My work involves many process – interacting with clients, brainstorming, drafting designs, executing the designs I have in mind, among others. But the thing I always look forward to is the end product. In the past, we have seen the power and the influence of arts to people, and how it defines the culture of a particular place. Similarly, we have seen how works of art make or break a particular product. That is what I enjoy about my work – seeing the final piece being used and seeing how it gives an impact to the lives of people.
