Melinda Livsey

Discover the interview of Melinda Livsey from Marks and Maker in Anaheim, California.

How did you become designer ?

I was studying illustration in college and had to take a typography class to fulfill the requirement. I didn’t know what graphic design was until then. I was completely sold on it! I was most drawn to how design was more a way of thinking and problem solving than anything else. I added graphic design to my major and ended up getting an internship as a designer right after graduation.

How would you define your vision of design, your style ?

I would say my style is minimal, classic, and thoughtful.

For the future, what are your professional projects ?

I’ll be moving more toward brand strategy and away from doing design work in the future. I find that brand strategy satisfies my desire to think and problem solve in ways design doesn’t. I’ll also be working on a lot more self initiated projects and teaching brand strategy to designers who want to make a similar career change as I did.

What do you like the most in your job ?

I like being able to get paid to think and innovate and not just execute an already existing process. There’s nothing like making a living being creative.
