Discover the interview of Keey (Keey Studio):
How did you become designer?
Since I was a child, I’ve always loved drawing. I was fascinated by handmade toys and often copied illustrations from textbooks just for fun. It was a natural passion—not something I practiced with a goal in mind. As I grew older, I started thinking about a career in the arts. While I realized that my realistic drawing skills had limits, I discovered that I had a strong connection with stylized and expressive forms.
I have a deep appreciation for brand logos, decorative patterns, and culturally rich visual elements. Over time, I realized that I was better suited for applied arts rather than fine arts. I graduated with honors as valedictorian from Saigon Technology University (STU) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Since then, I’ve been on a journey to build my design career and continue to pursue my creative passion to this day.
How would you define your vision of design, your style?
To me, every design process begins with in-depth research to uncover meaningful and interesting ideas. A beautiful design is not just about its appearance—it must carry depth. Every detail should hold a message or meaning. At the same time, I place great importance on practical functionality when bringing designs into real-world application.
On a personal level, I’m a sentimental and gentle person—sometimes introspective. I have a strong affinity for cultural themes, especially in researching and integrating cultural art into my designs. I specialize in branding and packaging design, often incorporating my own stylized artworks into the final product. With every piece I create, my goal is to evoke a positive emotion and leave a warm, lasting impression from the very first glance.
For the future, what are your professional projects?
In the future, I plan to start my own design company if the opportunity arises. At the moment, I work full-time as a designer for a company, while also teaching as a lecturer at Saigon Technology University (STU) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In addition, I take on freelance design projects under the name Keey Studio.
Although Keey Studio is not yet an official company, my goal is to develop it into a professional agency in the future. Keey Studio will specialize in branding services such as logo design, packaging, editorial layout, and print production—with myself taking the role of Creative Director.
What do you like the most in your job?
What I love most about design is discovering culturally rich projects—those that make me go “wow.” They give me tremendous inspiration and motivation to keep creating.
Secondly, I truly enjoy seeing others appreciate my designs, especially when they inspire people or contribute something meaningful to the community and society.
I also have a small dream—to one day be featured in the “Best of Behance.” I haven’t achieved it yet, but that’s okay. I remain happy and motivated, constantly working to improve myself and get closer to that goal.
