Gerard Whelan from Brandcentral

Discover the interview of Gerard Whelan from Brandcentral:

How did you become designer?

I’ve been fascinated by graphic design since I was a kid—I would spend hours after school creating album covers and posters for my favorite artists. That passion led me to study Graphic Design at Technological University Dublin, followed by a postgraduate degree in Advertising, where I developed a strong foundation in conceptual thinking.

How would you define your vision of design, your style?

We don’t follow a specific agency style—we’re solution-focused. Our approach is influenced by Scandinavian design principles, where creativity supports the idea rather than overshadows it. Our philosophy is simple: understand the market, uncover the client’s brand story, and craft the most effective solution by combining bold creativity with thoughtful, purposeful design.

For the future, what are your professional projects?

We’re currently working on a rebrand and new website for Ireland’s largest energy union. We’re also about to begin a rebrand and website project for a charity that supports victims of torture. We’re passionate about collaborating with clients who champion meaningful causes—knowing that our work can make a real difference is incredibly rewarding.

What do you like the most in your job?

1. Collaborating with our talented team.

2. Crafting and telling our clients’ brand stories in a compelling and authentic way.

3. Seeing our clients succeed—whether through increased sales, stronger brand recognition, or improved reputation.
