Discover the interview of Dan Perrella in Toronto, Canada
How did you become designer ?
I always had an interest in illustration and design
since I was very young but I never knew how to make a career out of it. Only after completing a degree program in economics did I realize that I needed to pursue a career in the design industry. I just couldn’t settle for a simple desk job crunching numbers.
How would you define your vision of design, your style ?
After heading back to school for Graphic Design I was able to get an internship and then a freelance contract in a leading design agency in Toronto. I have since worked for a variety of in-house studios while building up my freelance business, working across different industries. Currently I work as a Senior Designer for a hospitality group in Toronto and run my freelance business in my own time.
For the future, what are your professional projects ?
My design style changes as I’m always trying to learn new techniques. Overall I would say I go for simplicity over complexity when working through a project and I always love when I can add an illustrative component.
What do you like the most in your job ?
No matter the project my process always starts by researching and then sketching all my initial ideas. I find this part of the process most important as it sets the foundation for the rest of the project and I can see the result before moving on to the computer for further development.
