Discover the interview of Ben from B&W Graphic Lab:
How did you become designer?
Design is merely a mode of expression—a medium for human connection. Though I didn’t major in design at university, my academic journey introduced me to many design students and professors, revealing the boundless possibilities between graphics and text. These visual languages can articulate what words often fail to convey.
As someone who has struggled with verbal expression since childhood, design has become my voice. It compensates for my communicative limitations, allowing me to materialize whimsical ideas and imaginations. With each creative attempt, I grow more enthralled by this process of bringing the intangible into being.
How would you define your vision of design, your style?
I believe design should serve the creative concept, not adhere to a fixed style. The hallmark of my approach is initiating each project with a compelling core idea that drives the entire brand visual system – though our team has become known for vibrant color palettes and abstract geometries, these are simply organic manifestations of that conceptual process.
For the future, what are your professional projects?
I want to explore more diverse design forms, downplay commercial constraints, and focus on personalized expression and creative breakthroughs.
What do you like the most in your job?
I most enjoy the conceptual phase, where intensive thinking and discussions reveal clients’ industry insights—this multi-perspective process pushes my cognitive boundaries and minimizes blind spots.
